Here is another beautifuly refurbished and cleaned ScopeTechniques Tektronix 2430A!
* One Tektronix 2430A 150MHz Digital Oscilloscope.
* CDROM with pdf manuals, including service manual.
* A one month warranty (calibration seal must remain unbroken for warranty to remain valid).
This is a list of the work performed on this 2430A:
* The Power Supply has been refurbished. (ALL Electrolytic capacitors changed).
* The two sealed bearings in the fan were replaced with new ones.
* The front panel was disassembled and all plastic components washed.
* The case, rear cover and rubber feet were also washed.
* All internal dust is cleaned.
* All oscilloscopes go through a minimum 48 hour burn-in, including 24 hours of looping diagnostics testing.
* The CRT is checked for burn, if any visible burn is present the CRT is replaced.
* Missing hardware is replaced and tightned down.
* The scope is calibrated using Tektronix procedures (if the scope fails calibration it is repaired and burn-in is repeated).
* The scope was then thoroughly checked out so that it performs to Tektronix Specs (including GPIB).
* The CH1 and CH2 VOLTS/DIV knobs both have two knicks, purely cosmetic.
* There was a fracture in the plastic rear cover which I repaired using two part epoxy. The repair was done from inside such that the repair is not visible externally. The repair is in the left rear bottom corner.
* This scope had a blown incandescent bulb in the graticule illuminator. I tried something different with this scope and installed LED graticule illuminators. The look is different and very effective. The LEDs are easier to procure and much more reliable.

This scope has been Externally Calibrated to a NIST traceable standard. This oscilloscope's power supply was completely refurbished by me. All electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board were changed (not just the leaking ones). High quality United Chemi-Con 105 degrees C capacitors were used with the exception of the Power Supply's two main input electrolytic capacitors (large) where Panasonic 105 C electrolytic capacitors were used.
To get an idea of the level of detailing that goes into every scope that ScopeTechniques sells, here is a picture of a front panel in the process of being cleaned -> FP CLEANING PROCESS
The calibrator that was used to set the external calibration is a Fluke 5500A. A very accurate and expensive piece of equipment. It is much more accurate than the requirements for the calibration for this scope.
You will see many 2430/32/40(A) model oscilloscopes for sale. If the sellers have not refurshibed the power supply the capacitors will be leaking, period. Many of the scopes I receive are working but they have begun to self destruct their power supply PC boards. In fact, I have yet to see one that didn't have at least one leaking capacitor. Even working 2440 models had leaking capacitors.
Let's face it, all these models are from the early eighties (for the 2465/45) to the early nineties (for the 2440/2465B). Electrolytic capacitors don't last much over 10 years and when exposed to high heat, as in the Tek power supply, even less time. So why purchase a scope with a very limited life?

I will not sell a flaky piece of equipment, period! If there is any operational 'issue' with a scope during its evaluation and repair phase it becomes a parts unit. The component with the 'issue' is dismantled for study and repaired if possible or discarded if not possible.
