This is a complete kit with all hardware to change your mechanical safe lock to an electronic safe lock. To open the safe all you have to do is enter your 6 digit code and turn the handle. This lock is made by La Gard (now owned by Kaba Mas Corporation), the #1 electronic safe locks manufacturer. This lock requires 1 9v battery that usually needs changed every six months to 1 year (can be replaced very easily from outside the safe). This safe lock can be installed onto almost any safe with a standard lock footprint including commercial safes and residential gun safes. I have installed them onto the following safes, Liberty, Cannon, Amsec, Gardall, Cobalt, Hamilton, Remington, McGunn and many, many others. This is one of the easiest locks to install and can probably be installed by anyone with mechanical ability, but I do highly suggest hiring a local locksmith or safe technician to install it for you as otherwise the warranty may not be covered by the manufacturer.

If battery dies, the codes are retained in the lock and when a new battery is installed your code will open the lock. The codes are stored in the lock and not the keypad so there is no risk of spiking the keypad to open the safe. This is a high security lock and is made to be as secure as mechanical (dial) combination locks if not more secure.
