This is the HEART of those military survey meters (The probe does all of the detecting the instrument just converts what the probe detects into a reading of measurment)
This is the highest quality probe made to demanding government specifications and almost destruction proof with a thick heavy walled body and finger guard.
There are O-ring seals on the front and rear ends and a spring metal inseart that serves as a ground connection as well as a shock absorber.
This probe will detect ALPHA above 4 MEV, BETA above 70 KEV, GAMMA and X-RAY above 6 KEV with a directional focus sensitive thin mica end window.
Nominal sensitivity of 3,900 C.P.M. to 1 Mr/Hr of Co60 ( better GAMMA and less BETA and a very slight less ALPHA efficiancy than a pancake detector)
The GM tube is lead shielded inside the thick anodized alunimum housing and also has a drop down window shield made of nickel plated brass that will make the responce
to high energy GAMMA extend into the lower ROENTGEN area and is energy compensated multi directional when closed.
The shield is easily operated one handed by pushing from the detent area with the thumb and when dropped down it can be pressed against the housing to a lock open position.
The GM tube is a JAN 5979 also QPL qualified as a new product from LND and other makers (click on this link for full specification) http:// /products/382/
The actual tube you get may be one of several manufactures but they all meet the same high JAN requirement.
Each probe is disassembled cleaned and a new BNC connector is installed with all connections soldered and then reassembled and inspected.
Each brobe is subjected to a full range of responce and sensitivity tests with standard sources AM241-ALPHA,SR90-BETA,and CS137-GAMMA with the GAMMA source increased
rapidly to 80+ Mr/Hr for early saturation test.
NOTE this probe is a 700 Volt probe and will work with most all Ludlum,Bicron,WM B Johnson and other survey and geiger counter instruments and any instrument that has an-
adjustable high voltage that can be set to 700 volts.(The advantage here is the increased battery life as the instrument requires less energy to power it than the 900 volt version)
This is a tested working and ready to use probe with a BNC connection.
