A Revolution in Low Voltage Circuit Control
Translite's Regulating Power Supplies are specifically designed to control the adverse voltage conditions that are often associated with low voltage lighting applications. The PS2R (500 watt) include toroidal transformers and Translite's patented control and safety devices, the ARDâ„¢ and the AFDâ„¢.
ARDâ„¢ Control Circuit - The revolutionary ARDâ„¢ (auto-regulating device) was developed by Translite to ensure optimum lamp performance in low voltage circuits by regulating voltage output . The ARDâ„¢ is a microprocessor that is preset to ensure delivery of the correct voltage to the lamp. After the lighting system is installed, the ARDâ„¢ automatically adjusts the output voltage to the system to compensate for changes in electrical load and/or shifts in the primary voltage .
AFDâ„¢ Safety Circuit - Translite's PSR power supplies include the AFDâ„¢ (auto-fusing device) to safely control the high current (amperage) associated with open (uninsulated) low voltage circuits. Developed by Translite, the patented AFDâ„¢ is a microprocessor that automatically computes the electrical load on the power supply and sets the load limit accordingly. In the event of a short or overload, the AFDâ„¢ instantaneously shuts down the lighting system.
Soft Start: PSR power supplies have a built in soft start mechanism. This feature substantially reduces thermal shock to the lamp filament when the system is turned on. This is important because thermal shock is a major cause of lamp life reduction.
Easy Reset - The PS2R simply resets by turning the wall switch or dimmer off and then on again. In the event of a system shutdown, there is no need to access the power supply(often remotely located) to reset a breaker or to replace a fuse.
UL Listed - Translite PS2R is UL listed for use with any low voltage lighting system or application.
Dimming - These power supplies are designed for applications where dimming is not intended.
How does the ARDâ„¢ technology work?
Translite's regulating power supplies are fitted with 120/15 volt transformers rated for the maximum current at 15 volts. For example, the 500 watt PS2R has a 650 watt transformer. The higher voltage allows the microprocessor to set the extra voltage required to compensate for voltage drop . When the lights are turned on, the ARDâ„¢ control circuit dims down the transformer to the factory preset output voltage of 11.6 volts* at the output terminals. If the installer needs to establish 11.6 volts at a different location (i.e. closer to the lighting system or fixtures), the installer may run a 22 gauge sensing wire from the power supply to that point. The ARDâ„¢ will automatically adjust the output voltage so that this new sensing location is supplied with 11.6 volts.
The system is set up so that no matter what the load, 50 to 500 watts, the secondary voltage will not rise above 11.6 volts. As lamps burn out or fixtures are added, the voltage is adjusted automatically. If primary voltage fluctuation or voltage drop occurs, the ARDâ„¢ automatically adjusts the voltage so that the desired light output from the lamps is maintained and rated lamp life is real-ized.
*If necessary, the factory preset output voltage of 11.6 volts can be adjusted by the installer to compensate for voltage drop for other reasons. For example, if the light fixtures are very high up and therefore difficult to replace, it may be more important to ensure the longevity of the lamps, rather than the quality of the light output. In this case, it may be desirable to set the voltage to 10.8 volts, which will double lamp life.
Both transformers are used with very low hours. these sell for over $400.00 new.
