O.p.l. optical dividing head

The typical dividing head utilized on machine tools consists essentially of a spindle to which a worm wheel
has been set, this latter is driven through a worm screw. A crank handle fitted on the worm screw is provided
with a sliding pin which engages in drilled holes on a dividing plate. Consequently, it is obvious that the
Accuracy of the angle to which the spindle is turned will depend upon:
— The accurate location and diameter of the plate holes.
— The accuracy of tooth spacing and pitch of the worm and worm wheel.
O.P.L. Optical Dividing Heads are not only reliable laboratory instruments but, due to the design and construction
features described in the following paragraphs, are eminently suitable for use on machine tool.
I division on optical screen 10'
I division of dial indicator ring 2"
Height of face plate when in vertical position 11"
Adjustment of tailstock centre Vertical ± .040"
Metrology base — Total length 48''
maximum distance between centers 25 5/8"
